Spring?

While the lake is near fully iced over, some water is forming around the edges.  Two people were out ice fishing Sunday, indicating the ice is thick enough to walk on.  We do wonder how wet their boots got getting off the edge of the lake.  The snow is basically gone around the lake.  Today’s rain seems to have already taken care of what was left.  There, by the way, has been no moaning noise of the ice going out yet.

The grill had its first use this weekend.  Some wonder Johnsonville brats reopened the grilling season.

Maybe Spring?

What will probably turn out to be a false Spring seems posed to begin.  The temperatures will again go into the 40s above this weekend.  The longer range forecast keeps it going that way.  The limited snow should go away quickly.  Given the still freezing temperatures over night, the water should stay and take a chance at going to groundwater.

Cold

It hit –30.5 F on Mud Lake, with a known –36 F on the river.  Winter has come back.  Of course, I have still not had my deep winter coat on.  I do wonder if these temperatures are forcing my body to adjust to them more these days.  We met a guy at Walmart hoping it would finally get to –30 as he likes it that way.  I must be adjusting.

Snow cover is still light.  Odd deer have been spotted in the neighborhood after being seen only in tiny numbers so far this season.  Tiny birds remain rare on the feeder.

And still no fire in the fireplace at the Dairy Queen.  I suppose we will need that heat when it finally gets real cold.

Looks Like Spring

With the Fishing Derby and snowmobile race over, it sure looks like Spring outside.  Mud Lake has ice and will for some time, but the snow cover is thin.  It is nothing like last year.  The roof is mostly green.  The red squirrels piles of pine cones are not snow covered.  I think he ate a few, but the pile looks mostly untouched.  Was talking at church with a guy as to whether to not change the snow blower oil next fall as it is nearly new as it sits.  The wife waned me that lots of winter can be left.  Must be true.

Snow

A nice light blanket of snow fell over night.  It is unfortunately going to go to –25 F tonight.  Winter deepens.

Brrrr

It has now turned cold.  A Wind Chill Advisory was in effect this morning with wonderfully bright sun.  While edging up to zero, the day still seems mighty cold.  The Sun has stayed out most of the day and just standing in the window has been nice.

Sun!

After weeks of mostly cloudy dullness, a couple of hours of Sun, and dimmed Sun,  today.  Just stood in the front window a while a took it in with the dog.  Snow flurries and the usual dull took its place after our trip to Beagle Books for the sale.  Bought an Ann Hood novel for tonight.
